President’s Letter-Late Summer 2020

This communication comes to you at the end of a unique summer, not just for FHC, but for the world.

So first the GREAT NEWS: Cub hunting starts in just three weeks!  We will begin our Cubbing  season from Millington at 8AM on Labor Day, Monday, September 7.  Thereafter, we will go out on our usual Tuesdays (not September 8), Thursdays and Saturdays.

GOOD NEWS: Despite a delayed start to our off-season Horse Activities, our amazing Horse Activity Committee has pulled off several highly successful events including two well attended Hunter Paces, one Junior Gymkhana, and one VHSA Jumper Show. Hats off to Pace and Show Organizers for demonstrating that with excellent leadership, great volunteers and enthusiastic and compliant competitors these events could be presented in both a COVID safe and fun atmosphere.  Thank you to all who made these events so enjoyable and financially successful for our club.

We still have two more summer activities coming up due to rain postponements.  Our Summer Gymkhana for young and old and everyone in between now scheduled for Wednesday, August 26 at 5pm. And our Hunter Trials re-scheduled for Saturday, August 22 at Hunting Ridge.  The Horse Activities Committee is working hard to ensure that our Annual Fall VHSA Horse Show will happen on Saturday, October 24.

If you have a new horse, are looking to move up a flight, or are relatively new to foxhunting, our annual Fox Hunter’s Clinic is for you!  This year we are having Juniors come on Friday, August 28 to hone their cross country riding skills and learn how to safely ride in a group, while the Adults do the same on Saturday, August 29. Then on Sunday, August 30, both Junior and Adult clinic participants are invited to their own instructional live fox hunt.  Following the early morning hunt, Suzanne Dennis and her FHC players will present an informative, yet amusing attire and etiquette skit down by the trailers.

BAD NEWS: Purely Social Events remain on hold due to COVID safety concerns and regulations.  For now, we would like to encourage our non-hunting members to continue to participate in our horse activities either on a horse or as a volunteer.  We also encourage you to come out and see the hunts off and maybe even be a car follower when convenient.

GREAT NEWS:  Fox hunting is on!   Fox Hunting is on!  Fox Hunting is on!  Fox Hunting is on!

Your FHC President,  Jebb Cuthbert
