What a great day of jumpers, from 2' puddle jumpers (where the previous night's downpour helped add credence to the name) to the 3'6" modified jumpers, we had a good turnout of riders coming from as far as 3 hours away. We added a new feature to this show, announcing fun facts and tidbits about the riders and horses, e.g. the stately, tactful Mr. Jefferson, well, his name speaks volumes of his character. Forrest Gump is also aptly named because he and his rider, Sasha, "go together like peas and carrots". Helen (pictured above) has been nicknamed "Helen the Melon" by her rider, McKenna. Kevin describes Bonnie as "a glamour girl" while Gracie "cuts a wide path". Stephanie says that Camden is "a ham in the barn", and Beth tells us that Stirling likes jumping so much that his does it on his own at home! Kate found Ella just last year "unbroke, in a field" whereas Bethany's horse, Oscar, spent his early career working hard, having run in 22 races and earning $61,000 at the track. Andromache "spends 75% of her time sleeping, lying down" while her rider Bevin "spends 75% of her day, active, alert, and running around" and they are " a match made in heaven." Ellie says that Bok's horse, Petey "loves a good Bloody Mary, just like his owner!"
The show featured a jumper derby, where riders jumped natural obstacles, including a large coop up a hill, a double made out of logs and rails, and a bank up, 3 strides, over rails with a drop into the ring, with a jump-off to determine the money winners. The show also included divisions specifically for off-the-track Thoroughbreds, who were all competing for a chance at qualifying for the $1,500 Fasig-Tipton Jumper Stakes class to be held at the Thoroughbred Celebration Horse Show in Lexington Horse Center in November. The show was run by an army of volunteers, who helped with everything from creating and distributing the prize lists, to preparing the grounds, to making the food, judging, ring crew, gate person, announcers, secretaries, photographers, etc. Thanks to all of you, including Stephanie, Bob, Beth, Kay, the other Kay, Pattie, Liz King, Liz Uffelman, Dale, Jay, Mason, Debbie, Marilee, Jebb, Paul, Gerry, Genger (and her entire family!), Kim Morton, Sandy, Jim, Carroll, Carol, Muffin, Stephen, Shelly, Mary, and Jennifer.
