Trail Groups & Trail Riding Clinic
Riders will be divided into 6 groups. You may sign up for a specific group in advance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. If you do not sign up prior to the Ride, you may sign up at the registration table. Group boards will be on display for sign up.
Each group will be led. Riders will be asked to stay with their assigned group. If you need to switch groups, an outrider or sweep rider can assist you. Groups will be as follows:
Jumping/First Flight: This group will leave first and will go cross country as the first field in foxhunting. Water crossings, jumps, etc. should be expected.
Walk/Trot/Canter: This will be a non-jumping group, but log jumps are at your own discretion. You will need to keep up and be prepared for cross country water crossings and varying terrain.
Walk/Trot: Same as Walk/Trot/Canter with no cantering.
Fast Walk/Gaited Horses: This is a faster-paced walk group. Riders will need to stay together. Water crossing and minimal road crossing.
Walk Group (medium): Regular/medium-paced walk group, same conditions as Fast Walk/Gaited Horses group.
Walk and Talk: Leisure paced walk group covering a shorter distance than the 2 previous walk groups. Advisable for slower horses.
Trail Riding Clinic
New this year! A 2 hour Trail Riding Clinic will be conducted for less experienced riders or those who have spent more time in the riding ring rather than out on the trails. Instructors from Grovespring Farm, Culpeper, VA (www.grovespringfarm.com) will lead a children's group and a separate adult group and focus on safety instruction and riding skills needed for cross country and trail riding.
Trail Riding Clinic participants may raise funds and compete for Rider Fundraising Awards along with the other Ride for the Cure® Virginia participants.
To participate in the Trail Riding Clinic, sign up for Ride for the Cure® Virginia online at www.komenrichmond.org/2010rideforthecure as a rider and then reserve your clinic spot by emailing email@example.com.
